SharePoint is a web-based platform that uses lists as data base for team collaborations. Creating a Power app from SharePoint lists is easy and straightforward. Our Microsoft Certified trainers have been empowering business users by helping them to create Power Apps from SharePoint lists in the Power Apps training course running across Australia.
SharePoint List as Database:
SharePoint is a web-based collaborative platform that integrates with Microsoft Office. You can create lists in SharePoint to save information in tabular formats like excel. You can also save documents or images in SharePoint under SharePoint library. PowerApps can be created from SharePoint lists directly. Below are the steps to create a Power App from SharePoint list directly,
- Click on the Waffle menu in any Microsoft office 365
- Click on SharePoint to go to SharePoint Online.
- Click on the SharePoint Site name to go to that SharePoint Site.
Prerequisites:
To choose a SharePoint list as the Power Apps database, the SharePoint site and the SharePoint List should be in place with sample data. If you do not have a SharePoint site and a SharePoint list, you need to create it first.
Below is the screenshot for the SharePoint Site. It shows SharePoint pages, lists and document library. You need to select the SharePoint list on which Power Apps will be created.
The components tagged in the above image are:
- SharePoint Document Library.
- SharePoint Lists.
- SharePoint Page.
Once you click on the list namely Product Line Images, it will show the SharePoint List screen as shown below. SharePoint lists have headers in columns and records in rows.
Creating the App:
Below are steps to create the Power Apps from SharePoint List:
- Click on Integrate from the top ribbon.
- Click on Power Apps.
- Click on Create an app.
A pop-up window appears.
4.Write the Name of the App.
5.Click on Create to create the app.
Microsoft Power Apps will automatically create the app in Phone Layout.
Power Apps Versions control
While developing the Canvas app, Power Apps will automatically save progress. We can also manually save our progress with a note. After each save, Power Apps creates a version of the app. Later if there is any issue and we want to discard the new development works, we can restore the app to any previous version available. However, it is only possible to restore the app versions that were created in the last six months.
Conclusion:
Power apps is a low code or no code platform that allows you to create apps without any prior knowledge of app building and development. Power Apps platform supports a wide range of data base connectors. Share point lists can also act like tables which can be used as data base for app development. In this blog post, the steps to use share point lists as data base for creating Power App have been discussed along with a brief introduction of the different components of a SharePoint point site.
